An 18-year-old student escaped an attempted robbery by a man armed with an improvised ice pick and managed to alert the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest Oct. 24.
The incident occurred at about 12:45 a.m. along 13th Street near Regina Carmeli Apartment in Barangay 7, according to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) Station 2.
Police said the 25-year-old suspect approached the student and threatened him with the improvised weapon in an apparent robbery attempt.
The victim managed to break free from the suspect, retreated to his apartment, and immediately called the police for assistance.
Responding officers used the description provided by the victim to launch a search operation. The suspect was later intercepted while riding a tricycle at the corner of San Sebastian and Mabini streets in Barangay 32.
Authorities recovered the improvised ice pick and brought the suspect to BCPO Station 2, where he was positively identified by the victim.
The suspect is now under police custody and is facing appropriate charges.
Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region Director P/Brig. Gen. Rudecindo Reales commended the responding officers for their swift action and reiterated the Philippine National Police’s commitment to prompt crime response.
“Every report of a crime demands immediate action, decisive intervention, and a clear commitment to protecting the public,” Reales said in a statement. | TMD
