Dengue cases in Negros Occidental have dropped by 34.09 percent this year, but dengue-related deaths have increased to 13, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
From Jan. 4 to Sept. 19, the PHO reported 3,146 dengue cases recorded across the province, down from 4,773 cases during the comparable period last year.
Despite the decline in cases, 13 individuals have died from dengue-related complications this year, prompting health authorities to remain vigilant.
La Carlota City recorded the highest number of dengue cases in the province with 566, followed by Bago City, 236; and Silay City, 233.
Health authorities continue to urge residents to take preventive measures, particularly by eliminating stagnant water where mosquitoes can breed and maintaining proper sanitation in and around their homes.
Residents are also advised to seek immediate medical attention at the first signs of fever or other dengue symptoms. Early consultation and appropriate treatment can help prevent the disease from progressing to severe illness and reduce the risk of fatalities. | GPB
