The Toboso municipal government has purchased 2,000 kilograms of blue crabs from E.B. Magalona to support local fisherfolk affected by the closure of the United States market.

The export setback has disrupted the local crab industry, resulting in fewer buyers and declining farmgate prices for producers in Negros Occidental.

E.B. Magalona Mayor Matthew Louis Malacon thanked Toboso municipal government led by Mayor Richard Jaojoco for extending support to the municipality’s fisherfolk.

The purchase provides an alternative market for blue crab producers while highlighting inter-local government cooperation in helping sustain livelihoods amid challenges affecting the industry. | GPB
