The Batang Pinoy Committee of Bacolod has officially begun accepting credentials from athletes participating in the Batang Pinoy national championships, scheduled for Dec. 12 to 18, in the city.
City administrator, Atty. Mark Steven Mayo, said that credential submissions are open to young athletes aged 8 to 15 to allow the committee to evaluate and select representative players, based on their track record and skill levels.
Athletes who secured gold medals in recent major competitions, such as the Negros Island Region Athletics Association Meet and the Palarong Pambansa, will automatically be considered for inclusion in the city delegation.
Mayo added that the committee plans to focus primarily on reviewing athlete credentials, though selection tryouts or pocket tournaments may also be conducted on a case-by-case basis if interest exceeds the available slots for specific sports.
He said the goal is to have a Bacolod representative in all 30 sporting events.
But he noted that assembling players for wrestling poses a unique challenge due to the mandatory requirements requiring athletes to undergo at least one to two years of formal training before competing. | TMD
