The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Negros Oriental has approved a resolution seeking the establishment of a dairy stock farm in the Tamlang Valley area.

The valley encompasses portions of the municipalities of Valencia, Sibulan, Siaton, and Sta. Catalina, and the establishment of a dairy stock farm in the area is expected to strengthen the province’s dairy development initiatives while contributing to local food security, livelihood generation, and agricultural productivity, the Capitol said July 8.

The appeal is for the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to support the partnership between the National Dairy Authority and the provincial government of Negros Oriental, and facilitate the necessary requirements and inter-agency collaboration needed for the successful establishment of the dairy stock farm.

The resolution, authored by Board Member Woodrow Maquiling Sr., underscored the strategic importance of the project in enhancing the dairy industry’s growth in Negros Oriental through the development of quality dairy breeding stocks, improved milk production, and expanded opportunities for local farmers and dairy cooperatives.

Woodrow, chairperson of the SP Committee on Agriculture, and director of the Negros Oriental Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Center, said the project is aligned with national and provincial goals of agricultural modernization and rural development, while maximizing the productive potential of the Tamlang Valley area for sustainable livestock production.

With the approval of the resolution, the provincial government hopes to strengthen its partnership with the National Dairy Authority and secure the support of the DENR in advancing this significant agricultural investment for the benefit of Negros Oriental’s farming communities. ||
