A 36-year-old mother lost her life and two others were injured after a fuel tanker crashed into their roadside food stall along the national highway in Barangay Palaka, Valladolid, Negros Occidental yesterday afternoon, July 5.
The Valladolid Municipal Police Station (MPS) said the mother was pronounced dead on arrival at the Valladolid District Hospital.
The two injured were her 19-year-old son and their 17-year-old female helper, who are being treated at the hospital.
All victims are residents of Purok Sampaguita, Barangay Poblacion in the town.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region said the driver, 57, of Barangay Handumanan in Bacolod City, allegedly fell asleep at the wheel.
He lost control of the vehicle and ran over the roadside stall of the victims, who were packing up when the incident happened at around 4:15 p.m.
Reports said the tanker was heading towards Bago City from Valladolid Poblacion.
The driver is under the custody of the Valladolid MPS for proper legal disposition and filing of corresponding charges. | TMD
