Negros Oriental Governor Chaco Sagarbarria, Dauin acting mayor Alvin Truita, and Provincial Tourism Board executive director Woodrow Maquiling Jr. inspected the ongoing development of the Hyperbaric Chamber Center in the town recently.

The world-class facility for the province’s tourism and public safety sector is set to provide immediate response to dive-related emergencies and medical incidents, bringing international-standard care closer to locals and visitors alike.

Once completed, the center will strengthen confidence among divers, boost tourism, and ensure safer adventures in globally-admired marine sanctuaries in Dauin, known as the diving capital of Negros Oriental, the Capitol said in a press release.

The P80-million state-of-the-art center is funded by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), and will ensure safety and convenience as scuba divers will no longer have to travel far for treatment during emergencies, the Philippine News Agency had said.

Jetro Nicholas Lozada, assistant chief operations officer for TIEZA-Assets Management, said during the groundbreaking ceremony at the 300-square-meter lot in Dauin in February last year, that apart from decompression sickness, also known as barotrauma or bends, the hyperbaric chamber will treat wounds and other diseases.

The chamber can accommodate six persons at a time. ||
