A P55-million state-of-the-art evacuation center will soon rise in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

The development was announced by Third District Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez during the city’s 28th charter anniversary “Pasidungog” awards program on Wednesday, Feb. 11.

Before he was elected congressman, Benitez, then mayor of Victorias City, facilitated the construction of the P55-million evacuation center and multi-purpose building through the assistance of the Department of the Interior and Local Government in Barangay XIII.

Mayor Rowena Lopez-Lizares said the proposed evacuation center will be built in Barangay Concepcion.

The city’s two barangays – Zones 12-A and 14-A – which are located beside a river are usually flooded during typhoons.

At present, Lizares said they are using the Talisay City gym, which is now being repaired, and some schools as evacuation centers.

Lizares thanked Benitez for choosing Talisay City as the site of another state-of-the- art evacuation center in the Third District.

“Talisay City will provide the lot for the evacuation center while Rep. Javi Benitez will take charge of the building,” she added. | GB
