Three Negrense fishermen were rescued by a Singaporean-flagged bulk carrier after their fishing boat capsized at Mindanao Sea on Sunday (Jan. 25), according to the Philippine Coast Guard.
M/V Maud was sailing at the territorial waters of Siocon, Zambonga Del Norte when its crew members spotted and rescued the fishermen.
Those rescued, who are residents of Barangay Culipapa in Hinobaan, Negros Occidental, were earlier reported missing by their respective families.
Mayor Daph Reliquias said the three fishermen were drifting at sea for a day and a half before they were rescued.
Through the help of Hinobaan municipal government, the Coast Guard Station Southern Negros Occidental led by Lt. Junior Grade James Carbajosa facilitated the transport of the three fishermen back to Hinobaan.
Reliquias said the rescued fishermen were in good medical condition, except that they suffered dehydration after almost 36 hours of floating at sea.
He added that the municipal government will extend P30,000 financial assistance to them to compensate for their loss of income. | GB
