The Office of Civil Defense-Negros Island Region (OCD-NIR) remains under red alert status as Kanlaon Volcano continues to indicate its restiveness, Regional Director Donato Sermeno III said on Tuesday.

Alert Level 2 prevails over Kanlaon Volcano.

As of Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has logged two volcanic quakes, and the volcano’s edifice remains inflated.

Sermeno said the supervision of Task Force Kanlaon was already transferred from OCD-Western Visayas to OCD-NIR.

He has been designated as the Task Force Kanlaon head, replacing OCD-Western Visayas Regional Director Raul Fernandez.

Officials of the OCD-NIR and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) are slated to meet this week to discuss the temporary shelters of families affected by Typhoon Tino and Kanlaon Volcano eruption.

Sermeno said the discussion will focus on the relocation of homeless families in La Castellana in Negros Occidental and Canlaon City in Negros Oriental.

The provincial government of Negros Occidental has already purchased an eight-hectare lot for the affected families in La Castellana.

Sermeno said the Department of Public Works and Highways will prepare the relocation ground sites with the DSHUD to provide temporary shelters for the affected families. | GB
