A man who pretended as a police official was arrested during an entrapment operation outside a hotel at Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City on Saturday.

Police identified the suspect as alias “John”, also known as “PMaj. Calsado,” 38, of Koronadal City in South Cotabato.

Intelligence operatives of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region conducted the operation in response to the complaints against the suspect.

Operatives recovered from his possession a P1,000 marked money and a Mitsubishi Mirage vehicle.

The suspect will be charged for robbery extortion and usurpation of authority, according to the BCPO.

Initial investigation showed alias “John”, who arrived in Bacolod City two months ago, was staying in the hotel while engaging in illegal activities.

The suspect contacted relatives of arrested drug suspects, supposedly assuring them that charges will not be filed against them, if they will pay a certain amount.

He has collected a total amount of P700,000 from his victims, police report showed.

Before the entrapment operation, the suspect asked for P40,000 from a victim, but the latter decided to give only P20,000.

PLt. Col. Antonio Benitez, chief of BCPO City Drug Enforcement Unit chief, enjoined other victims to coordinate with them for the filing of more charges against the detained suspect. | GB
