The city government of Victorias, under the leadership of Mayor Abelardo Bantug III, extended support to the municipality of Hinigaran, through the Victorias City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (VCDRRMO), by deploying a water tanker to aid communities affected by Typhoon Tino Nov. 6.

Water rationing was done to households experiencing water supply disruption caused by the typhoon.

Hinigaran Mayor Mary Grace Arceo and DRRM officer Liezel Namo warmly welcomed the Victorias team to their municipality and immediately joined efforts to provide clean, potable water to residents of Barangay Cambugsa.

Victorias was spared from major damage brought by the storm, and the city government promptly extended assistance to neighboring areas badly hit by Tino.

It remains committed to supporting neighboring localities and promoting cooperation in disaster response operations across Negros Occidental, the city said in a press release Nov. 7.

The city’s Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (RDANA) team, led by Bantug, convened for an initial meeting Nov. 6 to discuss the extent of damage, and a final meeting was set yesterday to finalize a post-typhoon action plan.

As of its Nov. 5 assessment, no death was logged during the onslaught of Tino, with only two individuals sustaining minor injuries. This was attributed to the proactive disaster preparedness and swift response of the city’s emergency teams, the press release said.

The VCDRRMO said that residents in flood-prone and coastal areas were safely evacuated ahead of the typhoon’s peak, adding the continuous monitoring and coordination with barangay officials and the City Social Welfare and Development Office ensured the safety and welfare of affected families.

The city government commended the cooperation of all Victoriasanons, and reaffirmed its commitment to disaster readiness and community safety. ||
