The magnitude 7.4 earthquake that rocked Davao Oriental on Friday (Oct. 10) was also felt in some areas of Negros Island Region (NIR), according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).
OCD-NIR Regional Director Donato Sermeno said that Intensity 1 was reported in the cities of Sipalay and Himamaylan while light shaking was reported in Cauayan town and Bacolod City in Negros Occidental, and the island of Siquijor.
Based on the report of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Intensity 2 was felt in Sibulan and Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental.
Negros Oriental Governor Manuel Sagarbarria suspended classes in all levels on Friday.
Classes were also suspended in the cities of Himamaylan, Talisay, Bacolod and Hinigaran town due to the earthquake.
Hinobaan and E.B. Magalona cancelled classes due to inclement weather, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office of Negros Occidental. | GB
