The Bacolod City Fire Station is pushing for the creation of purok-based community fire auxiliary groups, and the installation of alarm bells as early warning devices during fire incidents.

These are among the fire safety interventions recommended by city fire marshal, F/Supt Jenny Mae Masip, and approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod for adoption, especially in 314 red zone puroks/areas covering 48 barangays in Bacolod that are considered highly-vulnerable to fire incidents.

The conduct of house-to-house inspection and fire safety lectures and drills, installation of purok emergency evacuation, provision of fire extinguishers at designated households or barangay tanod outposts, and the installation of barangay firefighting stations, among others, have also been recommended to “proactively mitigate risks and strengthen community resilience”.

“We firmly believe that the adoption of these interventions will significantly enhance the city’s fire prevention, preparedness, and response capacity, ensuring the safety and welfare of our constituents, especially those residing in fire-prone communities,” Masip stressed.

The red zone barangays include 1, 2, 3, 4, 6-10, 12-16, Banago, 18, 29, 34, 36, Singcang, 35, 39, 17, 20, 23, 26-28, Villamonte, 41, 30, Taculing, 31, 40, Mansilingan, Felisa, Mandalagan, Bata, Granada, Estefania, Vista Alegre, Pahanocoy, Handumanan, Tangub, Sum-ag, Punta Taytay, Cabug, and Alijis, the Bacolod City Fire Station said. | CGC
