Worker injured in NegOr shooting

A quarry operator was injured after he was shot by a motorcycle-riding assailant along the national highway in Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental on Wednesday (Aug. 27).

Engr. Angelito Uy Mendoza, 58, is also reported as a contractor and a resident of Barangay Manalongon.

Initial investigation of Santa Catalina police showed the victim visited his quarry site on board his black Honda ADV in Sitio Omanod, Barangay San Francisco when the shooting incident took place.

The victim suffered gunshot wounds in the back after he was shot three times by the gunman, who was on board a black XRM motorcycle.

He was initially treated at ACE Hospital in Bayawan City before he was transferred to Silliman University Medical Center in Dumaguete City.

The victim is now in a stable condition, PLt. Col. Joem Malong, spokesperson of Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region, said.

Investigators recovered a fired cartridge case of caliber .45 pistol at the scene of incident.

Malong said they are validating initial reports that the shooting incident was triggered by land conflict. | GB
