A suspect in a stabbing incident was injured after he was shot by a policeman whom he attacked during his arrest in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on July 27.
Roy Mosquera, 21, armed with two knives, charged at PCpl. Nelson Caballero, along Rizal Street in Barangay 3.
Before the incident, Mosquera allegedly stabbed Jomenel Sotes, 21, inside his residence.
Mosquera was brought by the police to the San Carlos City Hospital for treatment.
PLt. Col. Joem Malong, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region, said an impartial investigation will be conducted to determine whether any violation was committed by the responding personnel during the operation, as part of the Philippine National Police standard operating procedures.
“We are committed to transparency and due process. Any lapses in judgment or deviations from protocol will be addressed accordingly,” PBrig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR regional director, said.
Ibay reiterated his standing directive to all personnel, especially tactical responders, to consistently wear bulletproof vests and other protective gear.
“Situations like these remind us of the unpredictable nature of law enforcement duties. We must protect our men and women in uniform. Wearing proper protective equipment is not just a regulation, it’s a life-saving measure,” he added.
Mosquera will face charges for frustrated murder and direct assault on person in authority. | GB
