Another solar farm will soon rise in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. said that Aboitiz Power has already acquired a land in Barangay Luna for the project and also for its expansion area in Barangay Mabini.
The power company will establish a 500-megawatt solar farm, which will be constructed starting the end of the year or early 2026.
The project is expected to bring in P20 to P40 billion worth of economic activity to Cadiz City, the mayor said.
Meanwhile, the 120-megawatt solar farm of the SM Group is expected to operationalize within this year.
At present, Cadiz City hosts the 132.5-MW Helios Solar Power Plant in a 176-hectare land in Barangay Tinampaan, being dubbed as the largest solar power facility in Southeast Asia.
Negros Occidental has 264-MW of solar power generation, representing 69 percent of the Visayas grid’s solar capacity. | GB
