This year’s Bacolod Masskara Festival highlights will be on the third Sunday of October, from the previous fourth Sunday.
This as the Sangguniang Panlungsod, under suspended rules, approved on first, second, and third and final reading April 2, the amendatory ordinance authored by Councilor Em Ang, “setting the third Sunday of October as the permanent schedule of the Masskara Festival highlights in Bacolod”.
Highlight activities include the street dance and arena dance competition, and closing ceremonies.
The ordinance, co-authored by councilors Jason Villarosa and Cindy Rojas, said the fourth Sunday of October has been “annually marked with rain and weather disruptions, impacting the overall experience of the festival highlights.”
The change in schedule to the third weekend of October aims to ensure more stable weather conditions for the safety and comfort of festival goers and visitors, as well as the successful performance of the Masskara Festival highlights and activities, Ang said.
The ordinance, which amended Section 1 of City Ordinance 09-17-820, passed on May 24, 2017, aims to celebrate the highlights of the Masskara Festival every third Sunday of October to strengthen, promote, and expand its impact in tourism. | CGC
