Several persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Bacolod City received assistive devices and supplies during the turnover ceremony Feb. 25 at the Bacolod Government Center lobby.

A project initiated by Upward Inc., 25 PWD associations from various barangays in Bacolod received essential assistive devices and supplies, including wheelchairs, crutches, quad canes, glucometers, pulse oximeters, walkers, commodes, maintenance medicines and kits, and white canes and protection sunglasses for the blind.

Mayor Alfredo Benitez stressed the city’s commitment to supporting PWDs.

“You truly deserve to receive these because they are a necessity. It’s a good thing that I was able to attend this turnover ceremony so I could personally see where the city still lacks in providing benefits for our fellow PWDs,” he said.

“That is the first thing I will address. I will ensure that in future distributions and events, these benefits will no longer be something you have to wait for, or request—they should be readily available,” Benitez added.

This initiative reflects the Bacolod government’s ongoing efforts to improve accessibility and provide essential support for the PWD community, the city said in a press release.

The turnover was also attended by councilors Kalaw Puentevella, Simple Distrito, Em Ang, and Pao Sy, CDC Secretariat Mary Jean Ramos, DSSD head Rachel Verdeprado, PWD focal person Alma Gustilo, and Sectoral Head Carmeli Bantug, among others. ||
