Fourteen volcanic earthquakes were recorded at Mt. Kanlaon within 24 hours as of Dec. 6, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported yesterday.
Phivolcs also recorded an ash emission event, which lasted for a minute.
On Dec. 6, it logged six ash emissions from the volcano’s crater, the bulletin added.
The volcano also emitted 3,891 tonnes of sulfur dioxide as moderate plumes rising up to 200 meters tall were observed from the crater, indicating continuous degassing.
The plumes drifted westward.
According to Phivolcs, Mt. Kanlaon’s edifice remains inflated.
Level 2 (increased unrest) is still in effect at the active volcano which straddles the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.
Phivolcs reminded the public that entry into the four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone is not allowed. | GB
