The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Friday (Nov. 15) logged two short-lived ash emissions from the crater of Mt. Kanlaon volcano as high as 300 meters, which drifted towards west direction.
Mari-Andylene Quintia, resident volcanologist at the Kanlaon Observatory, said the ash emissions were recorded at 5 a.m. and 9 a.m.
On Friday, Mt. Kanlaon spewed 4,246 metric tons per day of sulfur dioxide flux, and recorded 13 volcanic quakes in the past 24 hours.
Alert Level 2 prevails over Mt. Kanlaon since its explosive eruption last June 3.
In an advisory, the Office of the Protected Area Superintendent of Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park said that evacuated individuals residing within the four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone are not yet allowed to go back to their respective places.
Communities living beside river systems on the southern and western slopes, especially those that have already experience lahars and muddy stream flows, have been also advised to take precautionary measures when heavy rains fall. | GB
