The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 6 is prepared to immediately respond in case the Mt. Kanlaon unrest escalates.
DSWD6 director Arwin Razo has already instructed the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) to regularly monitor the situation and coordinate with concerned local government units for possible response operations.
Quick response teams from provincial and municipal action teams are also on standby for immediate deployment.
Razo also instructed the inventory of food and non-food items in all preposition sites in Negros Occidental, and to replenish stocks if needed, the DSWD6 said.
As of Nov. 9, DSWD6 has P115,899,634.81 worth of food and non-food items.
In Negros Occidental, the DSWD said 27,118 family food packs and 12,668 non-food items, composed of family kits, hygiene and kitchen kits, and sleeping kits, are in the regional warehouse in Bacolod City and different prepositioned sites.
“We have to be prepared. With the continuous unrest of Mt. Kanlaon, it is important that we have sufficient stockpile in the area,” Razo earlier said. “The most important thing is we have to ensure enough stockpile. It is always better to be prepared. Over-preparedness is better than under-preparedness.” ||
