Classes at all levels, both public and private schools, in Negros Oriental will resume today, Oct. 28.

Governor Chaco Sagarbarria issued Executive Order 58 dated Oct. 26, lifting the suspension of classes that started Oct. 23, due to the erratic weather condition brought about by “Kristine”.

While classes shall resume on Oct. 28, local chief executives of the component cities and municipalities in the province may exercise their discretion in the cancellation/suspension of classes in their respective territorial jurisdictions in the event that risk in lives and property arises from any weather disturbance, Sagarbarria said.

While “Kristine” already exited the Philippines, Tropical Storm “Leon” has slightly intensified over the Philippine Sea, the weather bureau said in its 8 p.m. bulletin Oct. 27.

“Leon” was estimated based on all available data at 1,000 km east of Central Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 90 km/h, and central pressure of 992 hPa, with strong to gale-force winds extending outwards up to 560-kilometer from the center.

Signal No. 1 may be hoisted over portions of Cagayan Valley and the northeastern portion of Bicol Region today, with the wind flow coming towards the circulation of “Leon” also bringing gusty conditions, especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds, the PAG-ASA said.

This tropical cyclone is expected to gradually intensify in the next 24 hours and may reach severe tropical storm category Oct. 28, and typhoon category on Oct. 29, and may also undergo rapid intensification, the weather bureau added. | CGC
