Last week, I wrote about a nagging desire to bring the ‘gospel’ of Journalism to student writers and their mentors to my hometown, Cauayan.
That dream came true on Saturday, Oct. 12, when the Cauayan-wide Campus Journalism Training was held. The activity was hosted by Tuyom National High School, under the dynamic and innovative leadership of Principal Milrose Rubi.
Almost 150 students and their mentors from about 20 public and private grade and high schools attended the training that was highlighted by breakout sessions with guided exercises. Likewise, discussions with advisers were held mostly on how to start publishing a newspaper as most participants are still planning to start their school publication.
Testimonies of participants showed how they valued the training, especially mentors, who expressed the desire to either start or revive their publications.
I’d like to credit the host school adviser, Wilvah Rapha Colimbo- Necesito, for coordinating all the preparations and Ma’am Rubi’s all-out effort, as well as that of her staff and faculty, in ensuring the success of the pioneering activity.

We have planted the seeds of Campus Journalism in Cauayan.
Hopefully they fell on fertile ground and eventually bear fruits for, as what I reiterated in the training, the benefit and development of the townsfolk and their community. | NWI
