A public school in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, received about 100 armchairs that were recycled from plastic wastes.

The faculty and learners of the Dumaguete City National High School, led by principal Claudio Sun, expressed their appreciation to Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo during the turnover ceremony Oct. 4 at the gymnasium.

Remollo said the armchairs, that are sturdy and durable, are byproducts of the city’s Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) using the collected plastic wastes so they can be reused and donated to public schools and offices.

Eco-Park Solid Waste Processing Facility manager, Engr. Leticia Duran, said in a city press release that the armchairs were produced by converting plastic wastes through the recycling equipment installed at the city’s Central MRF.

The plastic recycling equipment was acquired through the DENR upon the request of Remollo to further help in efforts to manage the city’s solid wastes by recycling the plastics to chairs, especially since the old dumpsite was already closed on March 30, 2021.

Another set of equipment in the City MRF is used for the pyrolysis gasification process that is capable of converting garbage to construction materials, such as hollow blocks and paver stones, to be used in the various infrastructure projects of the city. ||
