Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson reiterated on Wednesday, Oct. 2, that the congressional bid of Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer in the Fourth District has the support of Love Negros and United Negros Alliance (UNEGA).

Lacson, a leader of Love Negros, gave the assurance after his national political party, Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), decided to field a candidate against Ferrer in the 2025 midterm elections.

“That’s basically the status right now,” he said.

The Love Negros-UNEGA alliance comprises members of NPC, Lakas CMD, National Unity Party (NUP) and Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.

On Day 1 of filing of certificate of candidacy on Oct.1, Bago City Mayor Nicholas Yulo announced that he and Vice Mayor Ramon Torres have resigned from the NPC, the political party they are affiliated with for more than two decades.

This was after the NPC fielded Lea Delfinado, former regional director of the Department of Public Works and Highways-Western Visayas, to challenge Ferrer, whom they support in the Fourth District congressional race.

“That’s their call and decision. I think they have a reason for that,” Lacson said.

The governor said he will issue a statement after Oct. 8, the last day of filing of COC, regarding these issues.

Yulo and Torres have already joined Ferrer in the NUP.

Aside from being a member of the NUP, Ferrer is also the president of UNEGA, which has coalesced with Love Negros since the 2019 elections. | GB
