Dumaguete Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo and City Legal Officer, Atty. Manuel Arbon, confirmed the ongoing opening of an access road to Purok Canlas, beside the Colon Bridge in Barangay Taclobo.

This was due to a favorable court decision allowing the city government’s possession of the affected property for the egress and ingress of residents, visitors, and even four-wheeled vehicles in the area, the city said Sept. 20.

Remollo directed city engineer Lloyd Tenaja to undertake the concreting of the four-meter-wide access road and the removal of the Noreco II post to ensure the safety and convenience of motorists and pedestrians.

The affected lot was subjected to an expropriation proceeding before the court so that the city government, represented by Atty. Camelo Pidor Jr., can take possession of the affected portion of the properties, with just compensation, for being indispensable in the construction and implementation of the road opening to Purok Canlas I in Barangay Taclobo.

The local government constructed a fence to secure the premises of the property of the lot owners before the demolition was effected, the city said. ||
