Army soldiers claim to have recently seized a cache of firearms and explosives from an abandoned New People’s Army lair in Sitio Daan Barrio, Brgy. Damutan, Hinobaan, Negros Occidental.

While on combat operations, soldiers of the 15th Infantry Battalion said they were informed about an abandoned hideout of the remnants of the dismantled NPA South West Front.

The discovery of the rebels’ lair led to the recovery of an anti-personnel landmine, a Squibman type 12-gauge shotgun with nine rounds of ammunition, a caliber .38 revolver and its accessories, assorted medical equipment, among other items.

In a statement, Lt. Col. Brian Bagaipo, 15IB commander, said the recovery of firearms and the anti-personnel mine will further disrupt the activities of the rebel remnants in the area.

Two weeks ago, two suspected NPA remnants died in separate encounters with 15IB soldiers in Brgy. Basak, Cauayan, and Brgy. Camindangan in Sipalay City.

These encounters resulted in the recovery of a caliber .45 pistol and a shotgun, two fragmentation grenades, among other war materials. | GB
