The National University (NU) has opened its first campus in the Visayas and Mindanao in Bacolod City, and enrolment is ongoing for the inaugural batch, with classes to start on Aug. 5.

Ryan Joy Dizon, executive/academic director of NU Bacolod, said at the “Dayon Kamo sa NU Bacolod” activity June 15 that the university system sees the highly-urbanized city with “with very promising prospect”.

The opening of the 11th NU in Bacolod is part of the long-term plan when it comes to expansion, Dizon said. “We started in Luzon and now we are expanding in the Visayas and Bacolod is the first one.”

CHEERDANCE ROYALTY. The National University (NU) Pep Squad, seven-time University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) cheerdance champion, performs in an exhibition routine at the SM mall for the launch of NU Bacolod campus June 15.

She said Bacolod is more than ready in terms of area and location. “With all the research and market study that we did, we see that Bacolod is very viable and very promising.”

“We are here to give students and parents an option. NU education is very accessible. We want to offer and share it to everyone. With our facilities and preparations, we keep the quality so the total package will be very fulfilling to the students,” Dizon said.

The NU Bacolod campus is at the SM North Block building, and occupies the 6th to 8th floor of the eight-storey structure. The 2nd to 5th floor will be for level parking.

SM Bacolod mall manager George Jardiolin said in his welcome message that students from the city and neighboring areas now “have the chance to experience education that works” with the opening of NU Bacolod.

“What the new students of NU Bacolod can feel proud of – The Nationalians – is that Bacolod is the first campus in the Visayas-Mindanao Region and the first one outside Luzon. Such is the confidence of National University officials in our city and province that they would choose to locate here,” Jardiolin stressed.

He said that throughout NU’s more than 120 years of existence, the thrust of accessible and quality education remains steadfast. “So, we wholly welcome National University to Bacolod and look forward to a long and bright future of nurturing minds and building characters, not only of those from Bacolod, but of the whole of Negros and Western Visayas.”

Aside from Senior High School strands ABM, HUMSS, and STEM, NU Bacolod’s degree program offerings this school year include Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, BS in Psychology, BS in Tourism Management, and BS in Computer Sciences.
