Parts of Bacolod City and Negros Occidental will experience a 12-hour power outage on June 2, starting at 6 a.m., as the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said it will shut down its Bacolod-San Enrique 69kV transmission line (TL), for maintenance works.

The NGCP will conduct wood pole replacement along the Matugnaw-La Carlota line section, reset the Bacolod-San Enrique relay protection, while the La Carlota solar power plant will undergo preventive maintenance.

The outage will affect the Sum-ag and Hilangban substations of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, as well as the Valladolid, La Carlota, and San Enrique substations of the Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative, the NGCP said in an advisory.

For Ceneco, member-consumers to be affected include those served by the Sum-ag substation, and the whole of Bago in Negros Occidental.

“Ceneco shall take advantage of this downtime by implementing simultaneous maintenance works, like the preventive maintenance of its 30MVA Hilangban substation and 10MVA Sum-ag substation; replacement of rotten primary poles; and tree-clearing activities,” Ceneco acting general manager, Atty. Arnel Lapore, said May 30.

The outage will also affect the whole of Pulupandan, Valladolid, and San Enrique; the town of Pontevedra, except barangays Zamora and Mabini; La Carlota City, except barangays Cubay, San Miguel, Ara-al, Balabag, La Granja, Haguimit, and Yubo; and parts of Hinigaran, like barangays Miranda, Camba-og, Anahaw, Tuguis, Baga-as, and portion of Gargato.

Consumers should turn off electrical switch/es even during the outage for safety reasons, and to wait for 10 to 15 minutes after electricity supply resumes before switching on all electrical appliances and facilities to avoid a power surge, Lapore said. | CGC
