The Commission on Elections (Comelec) logged about 21,000 registrants in Western Visayas in the first two weeks of voter registration for the May 2025 national and local elections.

Comelec-6 regional director Dennis Ausan considered the turnout as a “good number”.

Ausan, who led the Voter Education and Registration Fair at SM City Bacolod on Feb. 23, however, said that they need to step up their campaign for more people to register.

He called on Western Visayas residents “not to wait for the last month, last week or last few days” to register.

The registration of voters will end on Sept. 30 this year.

Filing of certificate of candidacy for the May 2025 elections will be on the first week of October.

Ausan said that they will also conduct voter registration even in remote areas so that the people will no longer go to the poblacion.

“It will be the Comelec who will go to them,” he added.

To capture the youth, there will also be satellite registration in malls, he said.

The Comelec is open to accommodate anyone even on Saturdays and holidays especially those who are working on weekdays as well as students. | GB
