The Commission on Elections (Comelec) registered 2,086 new voters on the first day of the voter list-up for the May 2025 mid-term polls on Feb. 12.

Provincial Elections Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria on Tuesday described the turnout as a “good start”.

The voter registration will run until Sept. 30 this year.

Ananoria said he hopes it will be sustained as they are targeting to register 200,000 voters in Negros Occidental.

The first day ended without any hitches, he added.

The highly-urbanized Bacolod City logged the highest number of registered voters at 302 followed by Victorias City, 179, and Himamaylan City, 145.

The Comelec will launch the Registration Anywhere Program (RAP) on Feb. 23 to allow voters who are either working or studying in capital towns and cities as well as highly-urbanized cities like Bacolod to register in their hometowns.

In Bacolod City, it will be held at SM City with all the election officers of 32 local government units in Negros Occidental.

It aims to make easier to register, reactivate and transfer registration for voters, Ananoria said. | GB
