Two persons were killed and two others injured in separate shooting and stabbing incidents in San Carlos City and Cauayan, Negros Occidental, during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, police reported.

A 51-year-old farmer identified only as “Dado” died, while a 30-year-old woman alias “Marie” was injured in a shooting incident at about 10:10 p.m. on Nov. 1 in Sitio Apog-apog, Barangay Codcod, San Carlos City.

Police investigation showed that the victims were inside a motor shop, talking with relatives and friends, when an unidentified gunman suddenly opened fire using a still unknown caliber of firearm.

Dado sustained a gunshot wound in the left chest and was declared dead by the attending physician at the San Carlos City Hospital.

Marie suffered a gunshot wound in her left lower leg and was reported to be in stable condition.

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old construction worker identified as “Dodo” was killed, while a 45-year-old laborer known as “Mel” was injured in a stabbing incident during a purok festival at about 12:20 a.m. on Nov. 2 in Barangay Mambugsay, Cauayan.

Police said the victims were dancing inside the barangay covered court when the suspect, identified only as “Maro,” approached Dodo, placed an arm around his shoulder, and suddenly stabbed him.

The suspect allegedly stabbed Dodo anew while the victim was already lying on the ground.

Mel attempted to pacify and disarm the suspect but was also stabbed in the left knee.

The suspect fled after the incident.

Both victims were rushed to the Cauayan District Hospital, where Dodo was declared dead on arrival, while Mel received medical treatment and remained under medical care.

Police said the suspects in both incidents remain at large as investigation and pursuit operations continue.  | GPB
