At least 740 individuals from the 1st District of Negros Occidental, municipalities of Isabela and Vallehermoso, and Canlaon City in Negros Oriental, availed of free services during the medical-surgical mission Jan. 8-12 at the San Carlos City Hospital.
The medical outreach was in partnership with the University of Sto. Tomas Medical Mission Inc., where 48 doctors and 32 nurses, student-nurses, and medical students, performed 51 major operations on thyroidectomy, cholecystectomy, TAHBSO (Total Abdominal Hysterectomy with Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy), mastectomy, hemorrhoidectomy, herniorrhaphy, and baker cyst; 331 minor operations, such as removal of the sebaceous cyst and lipoma, warts, and skin tag removal; and 75 Optha surgeries on cataract, pterygium and orbital cases.
Moreover, 281 Optha-related cases were attended to while two individuals were referred to Cebu City due to complicated cases, a press release from the city said.
San Carlos City Hospital administrative officer Charlen Pol Anlap said she is grateful to all those who made the activity a success.
She said that Mayor Renato Gustilo is already planning to conduct a better medical and surgical mission next year, so that more residents will be benefited.
Anlap added that they have already scheduled individuals who underwent major operations and Ophta surgeries for checkups by local doctors. ||
