More than P1 million worth of suspected shabu were seized by the police from a drug suspect and two minors during a buy-bust yesterday in Barangay Mambulac, Silay City, Negros Occidental.

The arrest of Elmer Abela Jr., 42, a fisherman, and two 16-year-old boys, yielded 170 grams of suspected shabu, with a market value of P1.156 million, along with a handmade shotgun and a caliber .38 revolver.

The Silay City Police Station tagged the suspect as a high-value individual drug personality.

Police investigation indicated that the two minors, who are now under the custody of Silay City Youth Center, connived with Elmer in selling illegal drugs.

Saddened by the involvement of two minors, PBrig. Gen. Sidney Villaflor, regional director of Police Regional Office-Western Visayas, urged parents to closely monitor the activities of their children to avoid being victims of illegal drugs.

Meanwhile, two drug suspects were apprehended by the police in separate buy-bust operations on Jan. 9 in the cities of Bago and Sagay in Negros Occidental.

The operations yielded four sachets of suspected shabu and P1,000 in marked money.

The five suspects are now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. | GB
