Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday expressed his appreciation for the “kind words and endorsement” of Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez and his son, Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez, of his reelection bid in the 2025 mid-term elections.

“It is heartening to know that the hard work, perseverance, and unification efforts of the present administration under my leadership have been appreciated by my esteemed and well-respected colleagues in public service,” Lacson said in a statement.

The governor issued a response after the younger Benitez posted a declaration of his support for Lacson in a Facebook post Wednesday night.

“I stand for a united Negros Occidental and in full support of its current machinery that drives it to pioneer sustainable innovations and developments for all Negrosanons. With this, I am endorsing the Honorable Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson to be re-elected as governor in the 2025 mid-term elections,” the neophyte mayor said.

Benitez also chairs the Negros Association of Chief Executives or Negros ACE, the organization of mayors in Negros Occidental.

Lacson said such support “not only fortifies his resolve, but also stands as evidence of the cooperative spirit that defines their shared dedication to public service.”

“Their trust and confidence strengthen my determination to continue serving Negros Occidental with the utmost commitment, transparency, and integrity, ensuring the security, welfare, and well-being of each and every Negrense,” he added.

The United Negros Alliance, led by Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer and Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr., has also expressed support to the reelection bid of Lacson. | GB
