Rebels kill comrade planning to surrender

A member of the New People’s Army, who was reportedly planning to surrender, was allegedly killed by his comrades April 19 in Sitio Jalandoon, Brgy. Carabalan, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.

The victim, identified by the police as Regie Soledad, 36, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, after he was shot by suspects identified as Dandy Salvador and Jun Jun Balsimo, based on the testimonies of his wife.

Soledad and his family members were attending a fiesta in the sitio when he was approached and shot by the suspects without any provocation.

The victim was declared dead on arrival at the Valeriano Gatuslao Memorial Hospital in Himamaylan City, while the suspects fled towards Sitio Tapol of the barangay.

P/Lt. Col. Renante Jomocan, Himamaylan City police chief, told RMN DYHB that the gunmen were backed up by their comrades, who secured the area where Soledad was executed./GB
