Farm manager jailed for indiscriminate firing

A farm manager is now in jail for illegal discharge of firearm, in Hacienda de Agua, Brgy. Cubay, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental Jan. 21.

Nabbed was Romel Maquilat, 39, a farm manager and resident of Hacienda Rodriguez, Brgy. Camang-camang in Isabela.

Initial police investigations showed that Maquilat fired his gun several times, in front of the house of Nador Guitguit, 66, after he told the latter’s group to stop singing.

Guitguit suffered difficulty in breathing and chest pains, and was declared dead on arrival at a hospital in La Carlota City, the police said.

The suspect, who had locked himself inside his residence, was later arrested by the La Carlota City police. However, the firearm used in the alleged indiscriminate firing was missing.

Maquilat, who is now facing charges for illegal discharge of firearm, alarm and scandal, as well as direct assault, claimed that he only used firecrackers./GB
