Another port will soon rise in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental, as a private-owned port in Brgy. Manta-angan in the town, opened for business Friday, March 25, Mayor Marvin Malacon said.
Malacon, who is unopposed in the May 9 elections, said that the private port in Manta-angan is owned by FF Cruz Shipping Corporation, while the proposed development and use of a port in Brgy. Tuburan will be made through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme.
Lots of opportunities for EB Magalona are expected to come in with the port operations in Manta-angan, he added.
The new RoRo route will connect the Bay-ang Port in Ajuy, Iloilo and Manta-angan Port in EB Magalona.
On the other hand, the Lite Ferry shipping company owned by Lucio Sy, proposed to develop the Tuburan Port, that will connect to a port in Banate, Iloilo, Malacon said.
He also reported an ongoing measurement of wind character in Brgy. Gahit, EB Magalona, that Triconti Windkraft Group, a company engaged in the development of offshore energy projects in the Philippines, is eyeing as possible site for sources of renewable energy.
If the project pushes through, it will help address the shortage of power in Negros Occidental, and will spur economic growth for EB Magalona, Malacon said.
In the past three years of his administration, Malacon said they have completed 75 to 80 percent of targeted infrastructure projects. | GB
