Eight more job order workers of the San Carlos city government tested positive for use of illegal drugs, said Ana Liza Macaraya, focal person of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council.

This brings to 21 the number of city employees who tested positive for drug use, out of 951 city government workers subjected to random drug testing from Aug. 12 to December 5, Macaraya said Thursday, Dec. 5..

The eight JO workers are part of the 180 employees assigned at the City Engineering and Motorpool Divisions, as well as Waterworks department, who were subjected to random drug testing on Dec. 2

Macaraya said the series of drug testing is part of the government’s effort to ensure a drug-free workplace, in compliance with the rules and regulations issued by the Civil Service Commission.

Those JO workers, who tested positive for drug use before November this year, were already terminated from their respective jobs, she added.

But those recently tested for use of illegal drugs will be dismissed from their jobs after Dec. 31, in consideration of the Yuletide season celebrations, Macaraya also said. | GB
