The Sangguniang Panlungsod is urging eight barangays to expedite the submission of their respective budgets for this year, for review and ratification.
Councilor Lady Gles Pallen, Bacolod Liga ng mga Barangay president, called the attention of barangays Punta Taytay, Singcang-Airport, Sum-ag, 13, 19, 27, 28, and 35 to immediately submit their 2024 annual budgets.
This year’s budgets of the 53 other barangays have already been reviewed by the Committee on Barangay Affairs, chaired by Pallen, and ratified by the SP. The latest budget to be ratified was that of Barangay 3, amounting to P5.86 million, during the June 19 session of the sanggunian.
The review of the barangay budget by the sanggunian is pursuant to Section 333 of Republic Act 7160, or the Local Government Code of 1991.
“The sanggunian concerned shall have the power to review such ordinance in order to ensure that the provisions are complied with,” the LGC states.
If the sanggunian concerned shall have ascertained that the barangay budget ordinance contains appropriations in excess of the estimates of the income duly certified as collectible, or that the same has not complied with the budgetary requirements…“said ordinance shall be declared inoperative in its entirety or in part. Items of appropriation contrary to, or in excess of, any of the general limitations or the maximum amount prescribed…shall be disallowed or reduced accordingly,” the LGC added. | CGC
