The Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) confirmed the sixth dengue-related fatality, as of this month, after an eight-year-old girl from Barangay Handumanan passed away due to dengue complications.
Dr. Grace Tan, head of the CHO Environmental Sanitation Division, said Oct. 13 that the patient died Oct. 3. She had fever Sept. 28 and later experienced abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea, before being admitted Oct. 1.
Medical records show she was also admitted to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital when she was five years old, likewise due to dengue.
“Dengue, as we know, is not a disease that we can only see in a particular month in a year but for the whole 12 months, and cases spike, meaning they increase, during the rainy period,” Tan explained.
She noted that mosquitoes are active one to two hours before sunrise and sunset.
Tan urged households in Bacolod to always destroy mosquito breeding sites.
As of Oct. 3, the CHO logged 891 cumulative dengue cases in Bacolod, with 105 in Barangay Mansilingan, Handumanan with 77 cases, and Estefania with 73 cases. | TMD
