Transport organizations in Bacolod City said they will hold a three-day transport strike, starting on Monday, Sept. 28, with over 1,000 traditional jeepney units expected to join.
The participants are from the Bacolod Alliance for Commuters Operators and Drivers- Manibela, United Negros Drivers and Operators Center-Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (Undoc-Piston), and the Kabacod Negros Transport Organization/Coalition (KNETCO).
The strike until Sept. 30, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., will take place at the Bata and Magsaysay flyovers, Rudy Catedral, president of Bacod-Manibela, said Sept. 25.
Bayan Negros spokesperson Noli Rosales said that drivers may resume operations at night to assist evening commuters.
The participating groups are uniting to demand the scrapping of the value-added tax (VAT) and excise tax on fuel, lower pump prices, and the total repeal of the Oil Deregulation Law.
The groups said these policy measures are essential to protect consumers and drivers from high fuel costs driven by oil monopolies. | TMD
