Around 2,000 Malihaw and Baklaw seedlings were planted at the Mangrove Eco-Trail of Barangay VI-A in Victorias City by over 300 participants from sectoral groups, who joined the recent activity.
The Multi-Sectoral Mangrove Planting Day June 5 was in celebration of the World Environment and Barangay VI-A’s LCA Day, and also part of the activities for this year’s City Environment Week.
The seedlings were donated by the Provincial Environment Management Office that joined the mangrove planting along with representatives from the provincial government of Negros Occidental, and the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources.

Barangay VI-A head Anna Mae Claro thanked the participants for contributing in the preservation of the Mangrove Eco-Trail.
Councilor Dino Jose Maria Acuña, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Natural Resources, Environmental Resources, and Ecology, meanwhile, stressed the importance of caring for our surroundings, the city said in a press release June 9.
Also in line with the City Environment Week, officers of various tricycle operators and drivers associations (TODA) convened to reinforce their commitment to environmental sustainability at the Don Alejandro Acuña Yap Quiña Arts and Cultural Center.
Discussed during the meeting were compliance with Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, and the city’s Solid Waste Management Ordinance.
RA 9003 mandates the adoption of systematic, comprehensive, and ecological solid waste management programs, while penalizing prohibited acts, to ensure community participation and accountability.
The discussions also emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in TODA parking and terminal areas, encouraging TODA leaders to set an example in promoting proper waste disposal, and in instilling discipline among fellow drivers and commuters.
Around 80 TODA officers participated in the meeting also attended by Victorias Traffic Authority Office chief, PEMS Joseph Rodrigo Olis, and Keziah Roa from the City Legal Office, and committed to help in the cleaner and greener Victorias. ||
