The Provincial Veterinary Office of Negros Oriental said that 247 hog raisers from Bais City and the towns of Manjuyod and Valencia, received P6,128,000 as indemnification for losses incurred due to the African swine fever (ASF).

The release of ASF indemnification on Oct. 22, with funds sourced from the Department of Agriculture (DA) national office, covers ASF-related losses in the three local government units for 2023 and 2024 only, the PVO said.

It does not cover losses incurred in 2026, it said, adding that concerned LGUs are currently working on the required documents for this year’s restitution.

Qualified beneficiaries are based solely on the list endorsed by each LGU through its city/municipal agriculture or veterinary office. “Hog raisers who were affected but are not on the list should coordinate with their LGUs.”

The PVO said that hog raisers with livestock insurance claims under the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation have a separate timeline, because those claims have their own processing.

It also said that the earlier total ban on hogs entering Cebu from Negros has been lifted.

Under Executive Order 55-2026 of Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro effective Oct. 26, live hogs, pork, and pork products from Negros Oriental may enter Cebu, provided all requirements are met, including a shipping permit from the BAI-Veterinary Quarantine Service, veterinary health certificate concurred by the provincial veterinarian, negative ASF RT-PCR laboratory result, meat inspection certificate for pork, and vehicle disinfection certificate, among others.

Shipments must pass only through official ports with veterinary quarantine officers. “Live hogs are allowed only for lechon, and must go straight to the declared accredited slaughterhouse in Cebu, with no breeding and no resale.”

Shipments with incomplete documents, with no accredited slaughterhouse named, or that bypass quarantine ports may be confiscated or returned to their point of origin, it added. ||
