The nine-month stepped up campaign of the police against fugitives in Negros Occidental led to the arrest of 2,190 individuals, who have pending arrest warrants in court.
Of the arrested wanted persons, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office collared 199 most wanted persons (MWPs) and 1,745 other wanted persons (OWPs).
MWPs are those facing charges for heinous crimes, including murder, rape, robbery and drug-related offenses, while OWPs are those charged with minor cases.
The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) accounted for 63 MWPs and 283 OWPs.
In a statement, PBrig. Gen. Jack Wanky, police regional director of Western Visayas, recognized the collective and untiring efforts of the community, the other law enforcement agencies, and the police in locating and arresting the accused individuals.
From January to September this year, the Police Regional Office-6 manhunt operations resulted in the arrest of 4,570 individuals with warrants of arrest, including those arrested by NOCPPO and BCPO.
Of the arrested persons regionwide, 767 were classified as MWPs and 3,803, as OWPs.
The NOCPPO made the most significant contribution with 1,944 arrested persons or equivalent to 42.5 percent of the total number of arrests. | GB
