The implementation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban in Western Visayas led to the arrest of 21 violators as of Jan. 28.

Six were apprehended by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office while five, by the Bacolod City Police Office.

Capiz Police Provincial Office arrested four; Iloilo City Police Office, three; and Aklan Police Provincial Office, Iloilo Police Provincial Office and Regional Mobile Force Battalion-6, one each.

All the 21 arrested violators are civilians, regional police spokesman, PLt. Col. Arnel Solis, said.

The imposition of the gun ban, which started Jan. 12, is aimed at ensuring peace and order as the government believes it could lessen gun-related violence during the upcoming midterm polls.

In a statement, PBrig. Gen. Jack Wanky, police regional director of Western Visayas, reminded police officers manning the Comelec checkpoints to strictly adhere to the police operational procedures and related policies with utmost respect to human rights. | GB
