An estimated 2,000 absentee voters in Negros Occidental will start casting their votes today, Provincial Election Supervisor, Atty. Roberto Salazar, said.
Salazar yesterday said that majority of those who applied for absentee voting in Negros Occidental are members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Comelec personnel.
Absentee voters can only vote for president, vice president, senators, and party-list groups, with voting to be done at designated polling precincts, Salazar added.
Unlike regular voters who will use the Vote Counting Machines, absentee voters will do it manually, he said.
The absentee voting are for those who will be on-duty on May 9, or the Election Day.
The Comelec said 84,357 voters all over the country have been allowed to avail of the Local Absentee Voting (LAV), which will last until April 29.
For members of the media, they will cast their votes at the local Comelec offices where they filed their applications to avail of the LAV.
Salazar said the ballots for absentee voters will be submitted to the Comelec national office for counting on May 9.
Meanwhile, Salazar encouraged voters to check their names in the Computerized Voters’ List posted on polling precincts, if they cannot access the online Comelec precinct verifier./GB
