Another ash emission event, which lasted for 20 minutes, was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) at Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island on Thursday (Oct. 30).

The ash emission happened from 12:37 p.m. to 12:57 p.m., generating grayish plumes that rose at 300 meters from the crater before drifting to the general west direction.

Phivolcs also logged four volcanic earthquakes at Kanlaon Volcano, which remains under Alert Level 2.

Entry into the four-kilometer permanent danger zone is prohibited and flying is also not allowed within four kilometers from the volcano.

The ashfall caused by the minor explosive eruption of Kanlaon Volcano on Oct. 24 has contaminated spring water sources in Barangay Mailum, Bago City, Negros Occidental.

Barangays that also experienced ashfall or sulfuric odor in Bago City were Ma-ao, Ilijan, Bacong, Abuanan, Tabunan, and Dulao.

The Oct. 24 explosive eruption was the fifth event recorded by Phivolcs since June 3, 2024. | GB
