1st Bongbong’s Piaya Festival slated in Bacolod Feb. 8-11

The Sangguniang Panlungsod has referred to the Office of Mayor Alfredo Benitez for appropriate action Jan. 31 a request to hold the 1st Bongbong’s Piaya Festival from Feb. 8-11, as it noted that the event will be held at the public parking area along the BAYS Center and Pasalubong Center at San Juan Street in Bacolod City.

Toots Jimenez Jr., tourism event creator and Tourism Congress Philippines M.I.C.E. Board of Trustee, in his letter to Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, also requested a reset of dates, initially from Jan. 17-21… “due to the technical preparations that obliged us to reset to February since the month of January has to many activities in Western Visayas, and facilities and amenities are not available on our original dates”.

The homegrown pasalubong brand is celebrating its 40th year.

Bacolodnon couple Reynaldo and Lomer Villan started the piaya business with a capital of only P80 in 1984. It now has about 80 branches nationwide, and employing more than 600 workers. | CGC
